Diamonds

When it comes to diamonds in San Diego and La Jolla, think of the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat. As a GIA Graduate Gemologist with 46 years of experience, Milton Krasner has the expertise to help you find the perfect stone for your piece.

The 4Cs Explained

Cut — How a diamond is cut determines how it reflects light. A perfectly cut diamond bounces light back out, making it shine and glitter. A poorly cut diamond deflects light away, leaving it dull and lackluster. Cut is the most important of the 4Cs.

Color — The ideal diamond color is colorless. Truly colorless diamonds are the rarest and most valuable. Many diamonds have a slight tinge of color — these are less expensive and often look just as beautiful to the untrained eye. Some diamonds are pink, yellow, or blue — these specialty stones are graded with different standards.

Clarity — Clarity refers to inclusions naturally embedded in the stone. The fewer the inclusions, the more valuable the diamond. Most inclusions are so small they cannot be seen with the naked eye — clarity matters more on paper than it does in person.

Carat — Carat refers to how heavy a diamond is, not necessarily how big it looks. A well-cut smaller diamond can appear larger than a poorly cut heavier one.

Diamond Shapes

Diamonds can be cut into many shapes. The most popular include Round, Princess, Emerald, Asscher, Marquise, Oval, Radiant, Pear, Heart, and Cushion. Each shape has its own character — we'll help you choose the one that fits your vision.
